Village Information

Silverstone is a medium sized rural village in Northamptonshire, England that is most famous for its Grand Prix circuit. The Silverstone circuit is located about half a mile south of the actual village and used to be a Royal Air Force Bomber base.

The village is 4 miles from Towcester on the former A43 road, 10 miles from junction 15A of the M1 motorway and about 12 miles from junction 10 of the M40. The A43 now runs between the circuit and the village after being built a few years ago. Due to the location of the village it’s very easy to get to by road.

As mentioned above, Silverstone is best known because it hosts the the Formula 1 British Grand Prix every year. The annual race attracts over 100,000 visitors per year which boosts the local economy but at the same time brings very heavy traffic. Hotels near Silverstone are usually fully booked up in advance of the Grand Prix so if you are thinking of staying local you might want to book early to avoid disappointment. Another option is to camp nearby, there are many camp sites around Silverstone which do not require booking and are simply offered on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis.
